Waterford New Music Week is an annual festival presented by Waterford Institute of Technology and Garter Lane Arts Centre, celebrating and promoting contemporary music for all ages, with free daytime events. Now in its 17th year, Waterford New Music Week is the only annual contemporary music festival outside of Dublin and Belfast. It aims to support and promote Irish and international contemporary music, musicians and composers.

The festival celebrates artistic excellence in contemporary music, providing performance opportunities for new music, a forum for the discussion of new works and an outreach programme for young people and active aging groups. It showcases contemporary music performance of an international standard; and offers performance and professional development opportunities for both emerging and established musicians and composers. In addition, local communities get the chance to engage with new music, both as audience members and participants.

All daytime events are freeand& a variety of city venues are used, including the Central Library, WIT campuses, Christ Church Cathedral, Greyfriars Gallery and Garter Lane Arts Centre, with over 1300 participants in 2014. Through a multiplicity of genres including electro-acoustic, choral, instrumental, and jazz, the festival actively seeks to programme concerts, workshops and lectures that will appeal to the whole community and make challenging music accessible to all.
