Songs of the People (Waterford)

Friday 18 May 2018, Venue: Theatre Royal, Waterford

In 2004, Slovakian musician Vladimir Jablokov rebelled against the rigours of a classical musical upbringing and upped sticks for Dublin. Convinced by his brother Anton to bring with him his violin, Vladimir soons made a name for himself busking of Grafton Street, such was his prolific talent on the fiddle.

Years later, Vladimir and Anton are both concert violinists performing in concert halls around Ireland and the UK. They recently toured a show of “Russian songs” featuring folk music and music from Russian and Balkan composers, reflective of their grandfather’s Russian roots.

Their new show, Songs of the People, features a repertoire of widely known classics from the Western canon like Danny Boy and Que Sera Sera arranged for the brothers’ dueling violins, along with accompaniment from Adam Kuruc (piano) and Peter Vizvari (double bass).

The Jablokov brothers will bring these familiar melodies to life in this special concert of old favourites.
