Immrama Festival of Travel Writing 2018

Immrama Festival of Travel Writing 2018

13 – Sunday 17 June 2018 – Venue: Various Lismore Venues

Immrama Festival of Travel Writing returns this June with another stellar line-up of authors and journalists. Venues around the town of Lismore, County Waterford, will host the various events of the festival, which has been running since 2003.

The festival takes its name from an old Irish word for journey, immram, and the ensuing descriptions of these voyages. In that vein, the festival throws a spotlight on non-fiction writers who explore the planet around us.

Writers appearing at the festival include Jacki Hill-Murphy who has run a project which recreates the journeys of early female explorers for a decade; Rosemary Mahoney, an American non-fiction writer who has written about China, Dublin, and The Nile; Isambard Wilkinson, who will discuss his book Travels in a Dervish Cloak which is based on his time in Pakistan as a foreign correspondent during the War on Terror; and Bob Jackson who will host the literary breakfast on the Saturday of the festival where he will discuss the incredible life of Dr. Aidan MacCarthy, an Irish doctor who fought in World War II.

With the combination of the beautiful location and the amazing line-up, Immrama really is one of the highlights of the Irish literary calendar.
